Response
from Michigan Communities: What results should we seek for all
children, birth to five, and their families and communities?
Communities
throughout the state held conversations about results for young
children, using as a starting point the preliminary set of statewide
results identified at the "Great Results for Young Children
Summit" held on February 4, 2004. More than 500 people
participated in the review and prioritization of results.
Their comments and priorities were reviewed and finalized as consensus
results on May 7, 2004 by the Early Childhood Core Team.
The Early
Childhood Comprehensive System (ECCS) Project has just completed
a three-month effort to define a set of consensus results for Michigan's
early childhood system. These results, or conditions of well-being,
are those that hundreds of Michigan citizens believe are essential
for every young child and his or her family, whereever they reside
in the state.
The results are being
used to structure the blueprint or strategic plan that the ECCS
project is developing. The results will be combined with specific,
measurable markers that will track changes over time in how well
Michigan is achieving these results.
The results
were shared with the members of the Children's Action Network (CAN)
on May 10, 2004 and were formally reviewed with the Children's Cabinet
on May 27, 2004.
