ECIC supports a broad-based advisory committee on the issues of parenting leadership.  The goal of the Parenting Leadership Committee  is to provide advice that will inform ECIC’s work to:

• Support the local Great Start System infrastructure
• Advance the Great Start System results:  Families support and guide the early learning of their infants and toddlers; and families have access to high quality early care and education
• Increase knowledge regarding evidence-based practices
• Develop recommendations for innovative early childhood policy
• Provide education to the public to increase public understanding
• Increase public and private investment

The committee focuses on strategies to assure that communities have the flexible and sustainable resources necessary for a continuum of evidenced-based parenting knowledge and parenting support services.  The Committee works in collaboration with ECIC Parenting Leadership staff, and the local Great Start Collaboratives to assure that parents have the knowledge, skills and opportunities to be leaders at all levels of the Great Start System.

Committee Objectives:

• Members represent the diversity of Michigan’s population
• Members have a shared understanding of the contributions each makes to the success of the Parenting Leadership component of the early childhood system
• Members engage in generative dialogue that informs the respective work of membership
• Members choose to collaborate on projects of shared concern.
• Members oversee preparation of at least one written report to disseminate and educate state-wide.
